1979A Historic Foundation
On May 1st, 1979, the firm was founded in Harare as Chirunda, Chihambakwe & Partners. Two daring young lawyers broke away from established colonial-era firms to create a pioneering, all-Black African law practice at Regal Star House.
1981Expansion to Masvingo
Following the success of the Harare office, the firm began its national expansion by opening a branch in Masvingo. This office operated under the name Chihambakwe, Chirunda & Partners and established the firm’s presence in the southern region of the country.
1984Establishing a Presence in Gweru
The firm continued its growth into the Midlands province, opening a new practice in Gweru. Known then as Chirunda, Chihambakwe & Partners, this branch further solidified the firm’s reputation as one of the strongest and largest legal entities in Zimbabwe.
1987Moving into the Eastern Highlands
In 1987, the partners expanded to Mutare, opening a practice under the name Chihambakwe, Chirunda & Chikumbirike. This milestone completed a strategic national network, ensuring top-tier legal services were accessible across Zimbabwe’s major urban centers.
1995Chihambakwe, Mutizwa & Partners
After sixteen years of partnership, the original firm dissolved to allow for new professional paths, leading to the formation of Chihambakwe, Mutizwa & Partners in Harare. This era focused on refining the firm’s core practice while maintaining its legacy of excellence in the capital city.
2024A Modern Legacy Begins
n June 2024, following a 29-year tenure, the previous partnership evolved into the current firm: Chihambakwe & Partners. Founding partners Simplisius Julius Chihambakwe, Regina Maunganidze, and Andrew Demo established the new practice at No. 18 Weale Road, Milton Park, embracing a vision of modern, collaborative, and expert legal service.
